Types of Anesthesia Services We Offer

At Northpoint Anesthesia Partners (NAP), we have an in depth understanding of dental procedures. Our anesthesia technique is tailored specifically to support dental operations, to provide the most ideal working condition for the operating dentist, and to ensure the most optimal patient outcome. We can provide a range of sedation services from procedural sedation to nasally intubated general anesthesia. Each case is unique. The type of anesthetic technique will be based on various factors of the patient and the procedure. We will work with the operating dentist and the patient closely to develop the most ideal anesthetic plan for each case.

Moderate Sedation

This is commonly known as IV sedation, which can used to put the patient in a relaxed, drowsy state. The patient can respond purposefully to verbal commands, and maintain their own airway, respiratory drive, and cardiovascular function. The sedative can be given through the intravenous access and the doses of the medications will be carefully titrated to achieve the desired effect. Afterward, most patients will have a foggy memory of the visit. This technique can be ideal for adult patients with more medically complex conditions.

Deep Sedation/General Anesthesia

With deep sedation, the patient will be in a deep sleep and will not respond to verbal command during the procedure. With general anesthesia, patients are completely unconscious. General anesthesia can be initiated through intravenous (IV) access or a potent inhalational (gas) anesthetic. Inhalational induction, also known as mask induction, can be an ideal technique for children, patients with special needs, and patients with severe needle phobia. They can fall asleep by breathing into a soft face mask. After they are asleep, an IV will be placed to administer fluids and anesthetics. A soft nasal breathing tube may be used to help the patient breathe and protect the airway. General anesthesia with nasal intubation is ideal for patients requiring complex and extensive dental procedures (such as pediatric full mouth dental rehab, adult full arch all-on-X surgery, zygoma implants)

Safety is Our Number One Priority
